HKS DONATES OVER 7,000 POUNDS OF LAUNDRY SERVICE TO HILTON HEAD ISLAND FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT

It all started with a simple phone conversation between Owner and CEO of Housekeeping Services of Hilton Head David Myers and the General Manager of Marriott Vacation Club Surfwatch Case Spencer on what the fire department needed to maintain a sterile and healthy work environment at the fire stations after the first-responders made emergency calls within our community.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19, the fire department’s frontline responders routine cleaning protocols have drastically changed with an increased emphasis on the need to disinfect the firehouse, trucks, vehicles, equipment, uniforms — even the towels and linens used at the stations after emergency calls, in an effort to prevent cross contaminate of their station “safehouses.” Crews were asked to bring their own clean linens from home daily to prevent any contamination or spread of COVID-19, which was hard to execute during this time.

In an effort to reduce the possibility of carrying the virus from home into their workplace and vice versa, Housekeeping Services of Hilton Head Island has been providing clean sheets and pillowcases to the Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Department so that employees don’t have to bring their own personal linens from home. Marriott Vacation Club donated towels and blankets for the departments use.

"We've been in business on the Island for over thirty years and have had a long standing professional relationship with Marriott Vacation Club, including participation in many of their charitable initiatives.  When Case Spencer at MVC called and asked for help solving a problem for the first responders in our hometown, it was an easy call to make.  We're proud to have been a part of it,” said David Myers.

“Combined with the MVC donation, Housekeeping Services has processed over 7,000 pounds of laundry for the department including pick-up and delivery service of clean laundry over the past eight weeks — and we’re happy to be able to provide these services to our frontline responders,” said Housekeeping Services of Hilton Head Commercial Laundry Manager Bill Mead.

Housekeeping Services, a staple of the community and the largest cleaning company in the Lowcountry has been serving the residents and businesses of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton for over 30 years providing cleaning services for the residential and commercial community, janitorial services and commercial laundry services for area hotels, resorts and restaurants. It prides itself in supporting local charities and service organizations in their mission to assist and improve the lives of our local citizens.

Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Deputy Fire Marshall Russell Rogers commented, “We truly appreciate the efforts of Housekeeping Services, Marriott Vacation Club and the community stepping up to support our mission so that we can better serve our area residents and visitors with a safe environment and ensuring the health of others. Some of the donations to the department included handmade masks, N95 masks, hand sanitizer and PPE. We’re unable to shut down our department, so we needed to make adjustments as to how we operate to ensure that our crew was safe and healthy and not spreading the virus to the community.”

Selling Your Home?
DSC_0635.jpg

Whether listing with a Realtor, or listing your home yourself, presentation is everything. We will help you by doing a deep clean throughout the home before your open house, and keeping it clean on an ongoing basis for showings. If you are in the midst of moving to a new home, your focus will most likely be on your destination-where you're going, not where you're leaving. Unfortunatley, you're not paying much attention to the old homestead, with its all-too-familiar stains, spots, and smears. You hardly even see them anymore, but you can be sure that landlords, brokers and potential buyers will notice.

If you are working with a Realtor, be sure to ask for their honest opinion about what needs to be done in your home. Often times de-cluttering, and de-personalizing, along with deep cleaning can make all the difference, helping buyers see the potential in your home, and allowing them to picture themselves living there, not you.

Cleaning Made Easy

Why Water Temperature Matters
IMG_0528.JPG

"Experts agree that in order to kill bacteria and other viruses on linen, laundry should be washed with detergent and bleach for (at least) 25 minutes in water that is heated to 160 degrees F. Studies have shown that bacteria, viruses, and even bed bugs cannot survive this water temperature or chemical mix." - American Laundry News, February 2, 2013

Water temperature in laundry does make a difference—actually, it makes all the difference in eliminating viruses, bacteria, blood borne pathogens, and bed bugs. The plain fact is this: without the proper chemical mix and water temperature, resorts, hotels, and property management companies run the risk of not controlling these issues in the linens used in their units and by their guests. As a point of reference, linens washed "in unit" will generally be processed in water at around 100 degrees F. without a significant chemical mix, and even small commercial machines typically used by most motels and resorts rarely use water approaching 100 to 120 degrees F, depending on their boiler/hot water heating systems.

Why Hire Licensed, Bonded and Insured Cleaners
hs04.jpg

The decision to hire a housekeeper or a housekeeping company to come into your home periodically to clean is probably more complex than you think.  Issues such as trust, liability, insurance, and tax implications need to be considered and addressed.   Housekeeping Services of Hilton Head is here today to help you better understand the complexities of this business and process.

In an article written recently for Bankrate.com, Jay McDonald made these observations: Your personal…housekeeper…may make your life easier, but they also represent your greatest threat for a high-priced lawsuit.  Wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment and privacy issues (exist).   The propensity of some homeowners to hire undocumented workers, pay in cash and fail to check if (they) have workers’ compensation coverage exposes them to an even broader vista of tax and employment practice claims.  Typical homeowners insurance won’t cover much, if any of it.” Falls and breakage of homeowner property are also common, but often overlooked, concerns that are probably not covered by your current insurance.

The solution? Hire a cleaning service company that has anticipated and resolved all of those issues. When hiring a cleaning service, the Better Business Bureau says “Licensed, bonded, and insured are absolutely critical words when you hire a maid service.”  Licensed means the company has a current and “in effect” business license to operate within your geographic area.  A “bond” is a form of insurance that protects you from dishonest or criminal acts by the people that come into your home to clean it.  Insurance, including workers’ compensation insurance, general liability insurance, and a liability umbrella policy, protect you if the housekeepers are hurt or cause an accident while on your property.  These three factors combine to give you the peace of mind that the people who come into your home to clean it can be trusted, and the company you hire to provide them can be trusted. We often hear of homeowners hiring a housekeeper or maid service missing one or more of the key components of “licensed, bonded, and insured”.  We hear of families facing litigation, or losing hard earned money, because they simply did not know.

At Housekeeping Services of Hilton Head, we want to earn your business by providing the best housekeeping services possible, but also by educating customers of the value of those three words.  We are licensed, bonded, and insured for your protection.  We understand completely the value of those words and work every day to maintain the highest levels of protection for our customers. Call us today to find out more or request an estimate so we can come to your home and learn more about how we can solve your cleaning needs.
